Nestle recalls liquid coffee after glass shard scare NESTLE SA has been forced to recall its ready to drink liquid coffee products from the shelves after complaints emanating from Europe revealed that some glass jars were susceptible to breaking and as a result the coffee may contain small pieces of glass.

The recall affects the company’s Alta Rica, Cap Colombie and Espresso coffee range. Canada, Chile and Argentina have also been exposed to these products and have henceforth instituted action to remove the products from retailers in an attempt to protect consumers.

There were no injuries of people reported so far as a result of the possible threat the products may have posed.

Nestle SA’s Ravi Pillay confirmed yesterday that the company had not received any complaints about the quality of the products in SA but had as a precautionary measure removed the coffee range from the market and had instructed its staff in Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland to follow suit.

“A very small number of products have been affected”, Pillay said, in a move to allay fears that the incident could be widespread.

Pillay said Europe was the biggest market for Nestle’s ready to drink liquid coffee. He also said that this move did not apply to its instant coffee products and that the affected products would be reintroduced onto the market after the packaging format has been readjusted.

The coffee products were distributed in 100g glass jars.

Consumers who are in possession of these products have been urged to contact the nearest branch of Nestle SA.
